About Us

History

In 1987, the Australian Government introduced ‘block funding’ for non-government schools by way of a capital grants program.  Block Grant Authorities (BGAs) were established in each Australian state and territory to operate at arm’s length from the government, while following and implementing the guidelines established by the government to administer the grant program.

The ACTBGA was incorporated as an association in April 1988.

In addition to the ongoing Capital Grants Program, ACTBGA has administered several other non-government school grant programs on behalf of the Australian Government, including:

  • 2005-2008 |  Investing in Our Schools Program (IOSP)
  • 2008-2013 |  Digital Education Revolution (DER)
    • National Secondary School Computer Fund (NSSCF)
  • 2009-2012 |  Building the Education Revolution (BER)
    • Primary Schools for the 21st Century (P21)
    • National School Pride Program (NSP)
  • 2012-2019 |  Trade Training Centres in Schools (TTC / TSC)

ACT Government Grant Funding

From 2014, ACTBGA agreed to administer grant funding on behalf of the ACT Government for the following programs:

  • 2014-2017 |  Supporting Non-Government Preschool Initiative
  • 2018-Present |  Better Schools for Our Kids: Non-Government School Infrastructure Upgrades Program (BSK)
  • 2022-Present |  Non-Government School Parent Engagement Grants Program (PEP)

The BSK program was extended for an additional four year period in 2022 and is due for review or completion in 2026.
